Working on raw canvas, she layers color onto the unprimed surface areas and deliberately leaves sections of this underpainting exposed to add warmth, depth, and a sense of looseness to her compositions. Her paintings featured here at Area Environments were inspired by late-night paintings in her studio.

Ethel Voronkova

Ethel Voronkova is an Ontario-based, stylized abstract artist. Born in the Philippines, she moved to Canada with her family at the age of nine. In 2017, she started her artistic practice full-time. Voronkova has adopted a soak-stain technique into the creative process of her paintings.

Voronkova studied Fine Art at Centennial College and Graphic Design at Humber College, Ontario. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions including presentations at Arta Gallery and Twist Gallery in Toronto. She has also participated in the annual juried exhibitions at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, the One-Of-A-Kind Show in Toronto, and a solo exhibition at the Hamilton City Hall.

Her paintings are held in private collections across Canada and rented by corporate businesses throughout Ontario. She currently lives and works in Brantford, ON.
